It has been a crazy week for Activision, Infinity Ward, and Call of Duty in general. After a massive leak, followed by confirmations by GameStop, Activision today released a trailer, not only to confirm Call of Duty Ghosts, it also teased at a much bigger reveal…
As you can see, Activision will reveal Call of Duty Ghosts at Microsoft’s next generation Xbox reveal on May 21st. Activision also released the Facebook page for Call of Duty Ghosts. They posted a disclaimer about the page, too:
“Official Call of Duty Ghosts Facebook Page. ESRB Rating: Pending

Looks like they’re trying to keep all leaks contained as much as possible with this disclaimer. Nonetheless, pre-orders has started for Call of Duty Ghosts [as per the video above] at GameStop, and Amazon. These listings currently show PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and it will also come to Wii U. Finally, Activision posted a press release to clarify the thought that went into making Call of Duty Ghosts:
Prepare for the next generation of Call of Duty. The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise. The new title delivers a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast of characters, all powered by a new, next generation Call of Duty engine that redefines the series for the next generation.
“Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they’re going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world’s greatest fans.”
“Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels,” said Mark Rubin, executive producer of developer Infinity Ward. “We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”
To see an exclusive first look at Call of Duty: Ghosts tune in to Xbox: the Next Generation Revealed on May 21 at 10AM PDT on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE or SPIKE TV for the debut of the all-new game from Infinity Ward.
“We are consistently thrilled with the overwhelming response received from critics and consumers alike to the Call of Duty series, which has firmly established its home on the Xbox 360 with the game’s largest and most engaged community,” said Don Mattrick, president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft. “With Call of Duty: Ghosts, we have no doubt that our longtime partners, Activision and Infinity Ward, will raise the bar higher than ever before for this incredible franchise.”
Starting today, fans can begin pre-ordering their copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts at retail outlets worldwide.
“There’s no other video game property like Call of Duty. It’s the biggest game franchise on the planet that has had some of the biggest game entertainment launches in history,” said Tony Bartel, president of GameStop. “We are very excited for the launch of Call of Duty: Ghosts, as we transition to next generation consoles.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and PC on November 5. Call of Duty: Ghosts will also be available for next generation platforms.
After a huge Call of Duty Ghosts leak, there seems to be more and more confirmations about Call of Duty Ghosts. GameStop got ahold of instructions about putting up signage for a huge reveal on May 1st. [Source] Now, ahead of the reveal on May 1st, GameStop put up signs for… Call of Duty Ghosts. [Source]
There are two posters surrounding Call of Duty Ghosts:
Call of Duty Ghosts will go on sale on November 5th, 2013
As you can see, the game will be developed by Infinity Ward, and will be released on November 5th, 2013. Next up is a marketing poster to go along with the above poster…
The face of a Ghost.
GameStop, Inc. says the game will go on pre-order on May 1st, and there will be a reveal on May 1st. Shortly after this huge leak by GameStop, the Call of Duty Instagram was updated to include the a high-res version of the above image, here. A twitter user has found a Call of Duty Ghosts shirt, lanyards, and posted it to twitter users. IGN posted another image to show what pre-order bonus there is, and shows the character a little better.
No platform has been revealed thus far, but we’ll know more soon.
With Black Ops 2 “Uprising” making it’s way to Xbox Live on April 16th, there has been a lot of talk, and hype that is surrounding the new Zombies mode that’s called “Mob of the Dead” which is the sequel to the original episodic “Call of the Dead” content. Mob of the Dead is the story of four strangers stuck in Alcatraz. Those strangers are Billy Handsome, Al “The Weasel” Arlington, Salvatore “Sal” DeLuca, and Michael “Finn” O’Leary. Yes, you’ve guessed it: Prohibition-era mobsters. Their mission: Escape from Alcatraz, and find the plane that gets them out of there.
Mob of the Dead has a cast of some well-known actors and they are Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Madsen, and Ray Liotta. Just like “Call of the Dead” before it, Activision is going all out with this Map Pack. It’s easy to see why. Enjoy the new trailer!
Microsoft interviewed the folks at Treyarch to get a “behind-the-scenes” look at Mob of the Dead, to get a better idea of what the episode is about.
There has been a lot of leaks as of late surrounding the new DLC Map Pack. There was nothing concrete until now, Treyarch let it out. Putting rumors to rest, Uprising is indeed a Map Pack that will include 5 maps, and they are: Magma, Encore, Vertigo, Studio, and of course, the new Zombies mode, Mob of the Dead. Enjoy the new Black Ops 2 trailer…
Uprising will be released on April 16th to Xbox Live first, as per the Microsoft/Activision agreement. It’ll be released to PC, and PS3 owners at a later time. Not only that, there will be a Double XP across all platforms from April 12 at 10am PST and going through ’til April 15 at 10am PST to celebrate the release of Uprising.
Ever since Black Ops II’s “Revolution” DLC was released, there has been rumblings already about the next DLC. [CODForums post] But shortly thereafter, MP1st and other media outlets debunked it via investigative work. [Source] However, a few weeks ago, clues to the next DLC popped up. [Source] It’s more credible than the “Orientation” leak. And the next leak, which is via a promotional “card” (or poster, whichever you prefer) came up, and everyone believes it because more and more media outlets are reporting it.
Ladies and gentlemen, Black Ops 2 “Uprising”!
Black Ops II “Uprising” promotional card
A lot of this seems credible because the official Call of Duty site seems to be hiding hints of the map pack. Not only that, more, and more retailers are listing the “Uprising” Map Pack, and on top of that, Microsoft updated the Xbox listing to include the map pack in preparation for the April 16th launch. [Source]
Finally, Vertigo is supposed to be a Modern Warfare 2 map. [Source] Mob of the Dead is possibly the sequel to the original Black Ops’ “Call of the Dead” mode. [Source]
A month ago, in a earnings call, Eric Hirschberg said Activision is shipping a new Call of Duty title this year, as expected. [Source] But the question remains: What is the name of the Call of Duty title? Is it a new Modern Warfare title or an entirely new sub-franchise?
There has been a lot of rumblings in recent months leading up to this month about what is the name of the next Call of Duty. I broke down the long list of reasons why I believe the next title in the Call of Duty franchise is Modern Warfare 4, in this article I wrote. Activision denies to several sites that the next title would be MW4. Shortly thereafter, a photo surfaced. This photo shows a poster, the UnexpectedReveal.com quote “the most unexpected reveal ever” It shows the developers working on it, which goes in line with what has been said by an insider, and Sledgehammer showed a lot of interest in doing MW4. So, on March 21st, the countdown clicked down to zero and they showed a trailer. A movie trailer made by a fan. I still hold faith that the next title is MW4 based on the months of teasing, rumors, hints, and clues.
However, there’s conflicting reports that the next title may be Call of Duty: Ghost. This would come from a YouTuber who is a IGN Network Director. Much like Machinima’s network of YouTubers. It’s been showcased on IGN’s website, then reported worldwide. [Source]
So, what we know so far:
- Title is Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Allegedly to be set in the future.
- Will use present-day weaponry.
- Spec Ops mode will be replaced with something else.
New player options…
- Players can slide forward.
- Players can take a peak around the corners.
New loading screens…
- Will be dynamic.
- Will allow you to rappel from helicopters.
- Will allow you to breach and clear.
Sounds like a next gen game to me.
Activision has been very busy with Call of Duty: Black Ops II over the last 2 months. On November 13th, 2012, Black Ops 2 was released world-wide and was met with mixed reactions from critics, fans, and casual players alike. Sometime during Christmas, GameStop, and other retailers got promotional posters for Black Ops II. It’s none other than DLC posters, which was rumored to be “Revolution.” [CODForums post] But as you know, rumors are rumors until it’s official straight from Activision or it’s studios. Treyarch promised there would be DLC news shortly after the new year. Alas, as promised, Activision and Co. delivered…
While I was staying at a family gathering, Activision and Co. released a new video showing off the new “Revolution” maps coming to Xbox Live first.
The new Black Ops II Map Pack will arrive to Xbox Live on January 29th, and will contain:
Black Ops II Multiplayer:
Mirage: Enjoy the scenery while it lasts, because you’ll do battle in a luxury resort in China devastated by a passing sandstorm.
Downhill: As the battle rages on, you’ll go downhill in a snow-covered ski resort in the French Alps.
Grind: Look out, because you’ll “grind it” in a skate park in Venice, California. It looks like a really wide map, so far.
Hydro: You will be battling it out on a large, interactive dam set in Pakistan. In the video, it shows water being lavished upon you or your enemies.
Black Ops II Zombies:
Die Rise: Your mission is to fight for survival, because a skyscraper is crumbling, and there will be hordes of zombies coming at you from all directions. Be prepared, you have been forewarned!
Turned: For the first time, you will be able to turn into a zombie. How this works is remain to be seen.
Black Ops II Weapon:
Peacekeeper: For the first time in Call of Duty history, Treyarch is packaging new weapons with DLC packs. Peacekeeper is classed as a SMG (sub-machine gun), but is actually a mix between a deadly SMG, and an assault rifle. There will be challenges to unlock as you rack up those XP’s.
As usual, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC owners will have to wait to get their hands on the new Revolution Map Pack. More info as it develops.
Activision revealed first details of Call of Duty Elite over the weekend. They’re not stopping at this pace. They really want you to be reminded of Black Ops 2. The newest trailer shows off Black Ops 2′s various action-packed scenes, most of which we have not seen thus far. The trailer has a lot of chaos going on at once, and it’s looking really, really intense. Enjoy the newest Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer…
